Poker Tournament Fundraiser

2006 – Set up a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament to raise money for a high school alumni association.  Sent out invitations to likely players via Evite a month ahead of tournament day.  Sent follow-up invitations at one-week intervals as reminders while registrations were coming in.  Chose a location that would be easy to get to and produce a comfortable environment for card players, with big screen TV and Play Station system for players who got knocked out early but maybe needed to wait for a friend.  Procured tables, chairs, poker chips, multiple card decks, a tournament timer, and other necessary gaming supplies.  Set up a small buffet of hors d’oeuvres.  Structured the tournament with blinds, rebuys, add-ons and antes.  Sent out an announcement email the day after the tournament congratulating our winners.  About twenty players attended.  Raised $600 net after paying out prizes to the top three finishers.  This was used in conjunction with other funding sources by the Alumni Association to put on 25th anniversary activities for the school.
